Overnight camping between Lyon and Grenoble — one night at Lake Paladru

Halfway between Lyon, Grenoble and Chambéry, the 4-star Détente et Clapotis campsite offers a calm, nature-filled overnight stop by Lake Paladru, ranked among France’s most beautiful lakes. Rather than a noisy motorway rest stop, pitch your tent, van or motorhome in a wooded setting moments from a turquoise lake.

A strategic stop on the Lyon — Grenoble axis

Camping Détente et Clapotis is located in Montferrat (Isère, 38620), directly on the shore of Lake Paladru with a private beach supervised in season, in the Alpine foothills. This position at the junction of the Alps and the Dauphiné makes it an obvious stop for road-trippers who want to break the monotony of a long drive with a quiet, natural pause.

Verified driving times from each metropolitan centre :

  • 1 hour from Lyon via the A43 motorway then the « La Tour-du-Pin Est » exit, then the D1006 towards Les Abrets and signs for Lake Paladru (about 75 km).
  • 35 min from Grenoble via the A48 motorway « Voiron / Les Abrets » exit, then the D1076 and D1075 to Montferrat (about 42 km).
  • 40 min from Chambéry via the A43 motorway « Les Avenières / Les Abrets » exit, then the D592 and D1075 (about 42 km).

For travellers driving from Lyon towards the Alps or back up from Grenoble, this is a stop that barely lengthens the trip — the A43 and A48 motorways skirt the area only a few kilometres from the campsite.

Budget overnight stop at €8/night for motorhome or van on the dedicated area

Budget €8 overnight on the motorhome area

For the traveller in transit who just wants to sleep quietly and leave at sunrise, the dedicated motorhome area offers a night at €8 with 10-amp electricity included. This formula does not grant access to the campsite facilities, but it remains a clear quality leap over a motorway rest area : secure parking, wooded setting, water point and drainage area at your disposal.

Reserved for self-sufficient motorhomes, camper vans and converted vans. Ideal for the Lyon-Grenoble traveller in a hurry who wants one quiet, clean night with no extras.

Quality overnight on a standard pitch with full 4-star access

Quality overnight on a standard 4-star pitch

For those who prefer to turn their stop into a real one or two-night break, a standard campsite pitch opens up full access to the heated indoor swimming pool (open from May to October), the wellness area with jacuzzi and sauna, the private lakeside beach supervised in season and the kids club for children aged 0 to 12.

All configurations are possible : pitches for tent, caravan, motorhome or camper van, quick setup for one night, or more comfortable installation for two or three nights. This is the option recommended for the family road-tripper or the travelling couple who really wants to enjoy Lake Paladru.

A nature break instead of a transit stop

Lake Paladru is a protected natural area, ranked among France’s most beautiful lakes for the clarity of its turquoise waters and the quality of its environment. The campsite is certified with the European Ecolabel and the Camping Qualité label — its environmental commitment translates into a well-tended wooded setting, low density (151 pitches on 6 hectares) and the absence of supermarkets or shopping centres nearby.

For the road-tripper used to motorway rest areas, the contrast is striking : instead of lorry noise, the lapping of the lake and birdsong. Instead of concrete forecourts, the cool of the leaves above. Instead of neon lights, the starry sky of the Bas-Dauphiné. And in the morning, the option to extend one more night if the place charms you — that’s the campsite’s hopeful bet.

On-site dining all season

No need to drive on for dinner : in high season, the campsite restaurant welcomes you with dishes prepared on site from local produce. In April-May and September, local food trucks set up on the campsite square with French artisan cuisine, Thai dishes or evening pizzas, in a friendly atmosphere.

For the Lyon-Grenoble traveller, this is the perfect way to skip the motorway sandwich and enjoy a real meal before a quiet night.

Plan your stop or your stay

If the stop makes you want a meal on site, take a look at the campsite’s dining options — restaurant in high season and local food trucks in April-May and September. And for travellers worried about the weather, the heated indoor swimming pool open from May to October is the decisive argument to turn the stop into a real two-night break.
